Winning treble for veteran Albany trainer Steve Wolfe at Albany Racing Club’s Anzac meeting

Local trainer Steve Wolfe continued his terrific form in the 2022-23 season, saddling up three winners across the seven-race card at Albany Racing Club on Sunday.

Hot favourite Looks ($2.35) saw off a strong challenge from outsider Moving On ($12) in race one, winning by a head to break his maiden status.

Double Thumbs Up ($4.40) stormed home by 0.4 lengths for Wolfe in race three, ahead of the Rebecca Bayliss-trained Star In Time ($14) and $1.70 favourite and stablemate Divine Mercy.

Jockey Natasha Faithfull made it a treble for the Wolfe stable with The Great One in the TABtouch Share My Bet Handicap (1500m), powering to a strong one length win ahead of Elite Fighter ($6).

Local trainer Roy Rogers enjoyed a win in race four with new stable acquisition Avoidance as the four-year-old gelding settled in nicely and led all of the way for rider Brayden Gaerth to down Vonsnip by 2.1 lengths.

In race five over 1100m, Althone Castle ($14) saluted for Albany trainer Maurice Sheridan with My Boy Chris ($12) and Patriocity ($11) finishing second and third.

Seven-year-old mare Jolly Odd got up at long odds of $26 to win TheRacesWA Maiden (1600m) early in the day for trainer Bronwyn Mathieson, easily defeating raging $1.85 favourite Warralea Diamond.

Gaerth was reprimanded for returning to scale 1kg over the allotted weight on Arcadia Jewell in race two while hoop Beaux Banovic-Edwards was fined $300 for using her whip on four additional occasions than permitted prior to the 100m on Double Thumbs Up in race three.
