Garry Sidebottom, an inductee into the WA Football Hall of Fame who was named in Swan Districts’ team of the century, has died age 64 after a battle with cancer.

Sidebottom represented WA 15 times in State of Origin matches and kicked six goals in a famous victory over Victoria in 1984.

He began and finished his playing career with Swan Districts for a total of 114 games, while also playing 104 games in the VFL with St Kilda, Geelong and Fitzroy.

A powerful centre half forward or ruckman, Sidebottom kicked 227 goals for the Swans and was the club’s leading goalkicker in 185 with 78.

He also won two best and fairest medals at the Swans, in 1976 and 1985.

Sidebottom also led St Kilda’s goalkicking in his second season in Victoria in 1979, booting 56 majors.

He was inducted in the WA Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
