Craig Carmody-trained galloper Red Hot can get the new week off to the right start for punters when she steps out in the opening race at Goulburn.

GOULBURN

BEST BET

Race 1 No. 5: Red Hot

Only won the one race in her 27 starts but has placed seven times, one of those was a fairly recent second to Nasturtium which is good form for anywhere.

NEXT BEST

The Game Cricket 2024-25

Race 7 No. 9: Miss Lenorr

Drew 13 of 13, 11th at the 400m but first at the winning post at Nowra on New Year’s Eve. On her way now.

VALUE

Race 6 No. 13: Yasamine

More Than Ready filly resuming on an easier race than her OK debut in August. Trials were quite good too. Market watch essential.

QUADDIE

Race 4: 5,8,10

Race 5: 4,7,11

Race 6: 2,13

Race 7: 1,9

JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

Jay Ford has ridden more winners at Goulburn than any other track in NSW and has some terrific mounts today.

ARMIDALE

BEST BET

Race 5 No. 8: Dashka

Kia Ora gelding whose two runs for Highway winner Lyle Chandler have him on the cusp on a second career win.

NEXT BEST

Race 3 No. 3: Metal Bar

Been racing well this time in. Deserves some reward and gets his opportunity to cash in today.

VALUE

Race 2 No. 8: My Water Lilly

Unplaced in her three starts but make no mistake, she was good in all of them. Go well here.

INSIDE MAIL: GOULBURN

RACE 4

Always Praying is unlucky – and more than talented enough – to have won at least one race by now. In fact, she just as easily could have beaten Construct and Wolves on debut at Kembla in August but that’s history now. This is her best chance yet to get the maiden out of the way and move on. Ditto pretty much all of that for the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace filly Santorini Sun who admittedly has been a wee-bit too costly at times. Texas Star should relish the 1400m here.

Bet: Always Praying to win, box trifecta 5,8,9,10

RACE 5

Packer might well be saved for a race at home at Warwick Farm on Wednesday but is on top here if he makes the trip for the sole reason that he is peaking. Ghost Hunter is a Ron Quinton-trained grey gelding whose three runs have been in town (one) and two at the provincials. Back to country grade today and was a very easy trial winner at Randwick 11-days ago. Go well. Jalmari is a local from the Danny Williams camp. Market watch advised.

Bet: Packer to win but if scratched Ghost Hunter to win

RACE 6

Yasamine races in the Vinery Stud colours and is a daughter of their stalwart sire More Than Ready whose tally of global winners is an incredible 2062. There is a good chance this grand-daughter of Star Satire will be 2063 in a wholly winnable race for the Freedman (s) filly. Fenton is a major obstacle however given that recent run at Nowra. Profondo stablemate Reateros has trialled up like he is going to play a part here.

Bet: Yasamine to win, box trifecta 2,9,13,15

RACE 7

Miss Lenorr is a handy filly from the Matthew Smith stable; Smith by the way trained five winners in the ten days from January 9 to January 19. Miss Lenorr was Smith’s last winner in the year 2021 and it was a big, big win on her behalf! In De Sun Iwilcome was a massive drifter $3.80 to $9 first-up for no good reason at Canberra; she only got beaten a half-length. Fitter and has earned the weight with her 65 rating. Hot Press has hit her best stride now like all good Press Statements ought to.

Bet: Miss Lenorr to win

INSIDE MAIL: ARMIDALE

RACE 4

Rahni Factor is a Greg McFarlane-trained mare who landed some canny bets when she won at Gosford first-up ($11 into $7.50). Failed in town after that but was back in the thick of things at her most recent start when fourth at Gosford again. Very well placed indeed today. Impactful is a son of Deep Impact out of a Black Opal winning grand-daughter of Shantha’s Choice. Put it this way, if he had of won a Group 1 as a colt, $30m wouldn’t be enough. As it is $65,000 was enough – online in March last year. Chain of Lightning is somewhat untapped.

Bet: Rahni Factor to win

RACE 5

Daksha is a sparingly-raced five-year-old son of Deep Field and Challenge Stakes winner Villa Verde. The Kia Ora owned and bred grey has had two runs for Banju’s trainer Lyle Chandler and you would have to agree looking at them that the horse is on an upward trajectory. I’m On Break has the perfect draw, 3kg off his back and was an easy trial winner not so long ago. Sure to run well. Trogir has ‘only’ won five from 48 but he has placed 16 times.

Bet: Dashka to win, exacta 8 to beat 3

RACE 6

Island Grange has won five out of 43 but she could and even should have won at least that many again. Like a lot of horses, bad barriers and bad luck has often been her downfall (s). She has a good barrier this time, hopefully she can make some use of it bearing in mind she led all the way to win here on November 7. Kris Lees’ filly Dawnburst has barely put a foot wrong and comes off a Beaumont second. The two ‘Misses’ Magnum and Devinci are players.

Bet: Island Grange each-way

RACE 7

Ezekiel is a cleverly-named son of Divine Prophet but hasn’t exactly been blessed with a good barrier. Such a pity, had he drawn in closer, he would just about have been a good thing. Still have to be with him. Gerry Harvey-owned, Stephen Jones-trained gelding Photogenic did some very good things at his last prep. Trialled twice ahead of the return and has a dream barrier. Mr Pointer, the son of Sharkbite, is a fast horse, fit and consistent too.

Bet: Ezekiel to win but of scratched Mr Pointer the place
