It could pay to follow a Golden Eagle winning jockey at Taree on Monday while a Mark Miniverni-trained galloper can remain unbeaten.

Unbeaten in his three runs so far, the last one was here at Taree on a heavy (8) where he overcame difficulty to win.

Should be fitter for the first-up run. Has very good numbers at Taree and on heavy tracks. Sharp improver.

BEST BET

Race 2 No. 14: Put To Shame

Shamus Award filly that gets her big chance to post her first win with plenty in her favour.

NEXT BEST

Race 1 No. 1: Brainzes

Sent out some encouraging signs at his two runs in the first prep. Only has to reproduce that debut performance to go close here.

VALUE

Race 3 No. 11: Sweet Biscuit

Kermadec mare having her first start and certainly trialled well enough to suggest that she’ll give a good account of herself.

RACE 4

Hallowed Sun has placed at three of his six starts and in pretty good company at times bearing in mind he once finished fifth at Newcastle behind Satin Ribbons and Ultra. The Allan Denham-trained colt gives every impression that he will eat up the mile today. Kris Lees has a strong hand to play in this but it’s hard to know (on Sunday) which ones will turn up (on Monday). One would imagine that the pick of the bunch may well be Tiva Bay who was rolled on debut at $1.85 at Scone but was true to his real self at Port Mac soon after.

Bet: Hallowed Son to win, exacta 4 to beat 8

RACE 5

Quick Tempo has won all three of his starts which is no mean feat by any measure but keep in mind that his wins came at three different tracks, all of them away from home. The other thing to point out is that the horse overcame difficulty to win here at Taree on the heavy (8). Cameron Crockett has Into The Fire and Primal Scream here, both in the Darby Bloodstock jacket. Primal Scream beat Into The Fire at Muswellbrook on Oct 31 and we note that Into The Fire has won again since. Slice Of Heaven has compelling soft/heavy credentials.

Bet: Quick Tempo to win

RACE 6

Essoess was $61 into $26 when he resumed at Scone on November 15. He drew wide on the day and got a long way back as he invariably does. At the end of the 1300m he was ninth of 14, beaten about six. It wasn’t a good or a bad run so let’s just say he would be better for it fitness-wise. Take note of his excellent record here at Taree and on the slop. Rioli is zero for 28 on good tracks whereas his record on heavy tracks reads as a win and two seconds from four starts. Could be a rare win coming up today. Deep Dream has only won once in 21 starts but has placed six times and most importantly – that win at this same track/distance.

Bet: Eessoess to win, quinella 7,8, box trifecta 1,7,8,10

RACE 7

Irresistible Miss had her first two starts for Annabel Neasham was OK without being out of this world impressive. Fast forward to November 14 and the daughter of Choisir made her debut for the Cameron Crockett stable at Dubbo. She was $6.50 into $4 and won – the best part about the victory was that she beat Miss Milton who goes well. Stablemate Santa Margherita has a wide draw, whether that means anything will be clear one way or the other by the last race. On the known plus side, this daughter of Golden Rose winner Duporth has raced twice on heavy tracks. Minnifin likewise has a pretty obvious liking for rain affected going. Pelgrave has a win and a second at her only two t/d runs.

Bet: Irresistible Miss to win, box First 4 Nos. 1,4,5,6,11

INSIDE MAIL: SAPPHIRE COAST

RACE 4

Dragons Breath is a handy son of Golden Slipper winner Sepoy who has raced nine times for two wins, two seconds and a third which happened to be to last Saturday’s TAB Highway winner Testator Silens. This Natalie Jarvis-trained bay is yet to run a bad race so there’s no reason he won’t figure here. Stablemate Awesome Audrey is stunning black coloured filly also trained by Jarvis. Showed the heart of a lioness to win on debut at Moruya at her only run so far back on August 3. Moore Euroes has won at this venue but more importantly, has some fabulous numbers ‘fresh’ and circa the 1000m.

Bet: Dragons Breath to win, quinella 4.11

RACE 5

Shaka Rock returns to the scene in his credible third to Room Number and stablemate Foxtrot Bravo on October 28. He has raced since of course and that was an outstanding third at Hawkesbury at $51 no less. Drawn to get a good run here and is one for one on heavy! In My Wallet isn’t exactly a mudlark, far from it on exposed form, but so well in here that she just has to be considered a winning chance. Namarari was runner-up at Queanbeyan last start with 59.5kg on his back compared to 53kg which can only assist. Subtly Spring is back to a Class 3 after being beaten three and a half in the Queanbeyan Cup.

Bet: Shaka Rock to win

RACE 6

Shrug doesn’t win out of turn with four from 33 but a lot of that can be ascribed to pattern, tempo, luck, etc, etc. This race could fall away a bit on the day and she seems to be going well enough to win. Natalie Jarvis has won with her at this venue, it’s a matter of how she gets through the really heavy conditions that matter. Sly Song is by Your Song which goes someway to accounting for her heavy track record of a win and a second from four runs on the heavy. That win by the way was at Gundagai on November 12 and it was fair dinkum bottomless that day. Denmiss is unlikely to run if it gets super heavy but we have to get her name in here just in case.

Bet: Shrug to win

RACE 7

Newtown Braveheart is a talented horse at his best. One striking aspect about him is the depth of the races he has run in despite being only a Class 1 horse. Trainers say it all the time that there are no easy races anywhere these days – this horse is a case in point. Sissick turned in a P.B for the current preparation third-up in the nation’s capital, importantly on a heavy (9). Little Wand finally got the maiden out of the way last start albeit at Tumut. That said, she was first-up so maybe it will be a case of onward and upwards from here on in.

Bet: Newtown Braveheart to win
