Trainer Cody Morgan hopes Anethole and Satin Ruby can finally shed their “luckless’’ tags at Tamworth on Tuesday.

“I think Satin Ruby has been the most unlucky horse in my stable the last two years,’’ Morgan said,

“Probably Satin Ruby and Anethole, to be fair. They both deserve a change of luck.’’

Morgan believes both horses get their chance to register overdue wins on an improving Tamworth track surface that was rated a soft 7 late on Monday.

Tamworth and most of the upper-Hunter Region has been under flood watch in recent days with more rain forecast in the area.

But Morgan expects Anethole and Satin Ruby will be effective on the soft-heavy surface.

Anethole resumes in the Sky Racing World Class 2 Handicap (1000m) where one of his main rivals is stablemate C’mon And Love Me.

In overnight TAB Fixed Odds markets, the Morgan duo are at the top of betting with Anethole rated $4 favourite just ahead of C’mon And Love Me at $4.80.

“I can’t split them,’’ Morgan said.

“With C’mon And Love Me, she won first-up and drops 5kg but it doesn’t look good for her on the (speed) map.

“If she had drawn a bit ‘soft’ and was guaranteed a better run then it might be different but I think there is very little between them.

“You know with Anethole, he will get back (early) but he is going to be hitting the line hard.’’

Morgan has booked 4kg claiming apprentice Bailey Wheeler to ride Anethole, reducing the chestnut’s handicap to a very competitive 58kg.

Jackson Searle, who is apprenticed to Morgan, has the ride on last-start Quirindi winner C’mon And Love Me who carries 54kg with the claim.

Satin Ruby, another Wheeler mount, has 57kg for the Benchmark 58 Handicap (1200m) which closes the Tamworth meeting.

But Satin Ruby’s task has been made tougher after she drew barrier 18 although the mare will come into barrier 14 after the scratchings.

“Satin Ruby has drawn out but if she can be midfield with cover, I expect her to run very well,’’ Morgan said.

“Despite the draw, I would like to run her as she needs to get her confidence up.

“She has been so unlucky in her races but I think she should be hitting the line wide out and be hard to beat.’’

Satin Ruby has been unplaced in each of her four runs this campaign, her most recent outing at Newcastle summing up her luckless streak when she was held up for a run most of the straight then clipped heels just inside the 100m and nearly fell.

Morgan rated Invincible Fire as his stable’s best winning chance at the Tamworth meeting and price assessors agree with the mare at $2.30 favouritism for the Fillies and Mares Maiden (1200m).

“After seven starts, you would think by now she would have broken through but this looks her race,’’ Morgan said.

“She has come on from her good run at Quirindi, she has finally drawn a barrier and I think she is my best chance on the day.’’

Morgan was more circumspect when asked about the chances of Jappalouis in the Maiden Plate (1200m).

“I think we will have to wait until he gets out to gets out to 1400m,’’ Morgan said. “He has shown ability at home but probably needs a bit more racing to be at his top.’’

Meanwhile, Morgan said talented Edit will soon return to training in preparation for the Country Championships Series in autumn.

Edit won the Spring Cup at his debut for the Morgan stable, then ran a very good fourth in The Kosciuszko behind Art Cadeau before his ninth to Eduardo in the Classique Legend Stakes.

“It’s a quick turnaround for him so after another week in the paddock we will bring him back into work as the Country Championships kick off in February,’’ Morgan said.

“His heat will be at Tamworth which is lucky for us. The day he won here, it was as big a win as I have ever had with a horse.’’
