Vintage magic to be recycled
Those who visit Vancouver Street on Saturday will be taken to a bygone era when riders take their vintage and classic bicycles for a spin for the RAC Tweed Ride.
The event, in its second year after a successful inaugural tweed ride last year, is expected to be bigger than ever, with up to 40 riders taking part.
Albany man and WA Historical Cycle Club member Glen Huffer will don tweed attire and ride his reproduction 1897 Eagle penny-farthing.
Mr Huffer said the tweed ride was about connecting people with bicycles from their childhood and preventing old bikes being taken to landfill.
"It gets people out on bikes that were from an era where things were a bit simpler and had a bit of style about them," he said.
Mr Huffer said any bicycle would be acceptable for the ride, but classic and vintage were most welcomed.
Fellow Historical Cycle Club member Murray Gomm, who will also ride a penny-farthing, said he expected the convoy would be a spectacle.
Prizes will be on offer for the most dapper gentleman, the most fetching lady and the most breathtaking hair, facial or do.
The ride will start at the corner of Vancouver and Melville streets from 11.45am.
The Vancouver Street Festival runs from 11am-4pm.
