About 40 Albany cadets celebrated the end of the year with a march through the forts on Sunday, proudly flying their colours as they paraded through the National Anzac Centre.

The Tri Service Cadet Parade on December 8 was an opportunity for those involved in the cadet program to reflect on their year, from helping out at RSL services to a week-long stay at Bindoon.

RSL Albany sub-branch services director Michael Tugwell kicked off proceedings with his own memories of life as an army cadet and spoke about how cadets, cadet staff and families make the youth military program the success that it is, setting cadets up for life with important skills.

Cadet of the year award went to army cadet Oliver Kerr while the Leeuwin efficiency award went to navy cadet petty officer Joshua Boocock.

Among the air force cadets, cadet sergeant Pippa Brown was awarded top cadet while cadet under officer Millie Brown won the ageing out award and cadet flight sergeant Kaila Brentnall received a commanding officers commendation.

Australian Army Cadets Captain Justin Tilbee was pleased with the event.

“Everything went extremely well,” he said.

“Hopefully we’ve make it bigger and better next year.”

About 100 people watched the ceremony, which was broadcast on WAN Radio, before heading to the barbecue area for morning tea.
