Albany trainer Steve Wolfe is confident his stable can bounce back to the winners list on the big Boxing Day program at the Percy Spencer Racecourse after a dry spell over the past three Great Southern fixtures.

The reigning Great Southern Trainer of the Year has not saddled up a winner in the past three local meetings but still has three victories here this season and will look to add to that in the nine races on Monday.

Wolfe has 13 horses entered across the nine races and will look to replicate his Boxing Day form from last year after enjoying a winning treble at the same meeting.

Classy gallopers Chasing Chaos, Countercat, Tiger Pete, Conjob and Rare Selection head up Wolfe’s team.

“We have been concentrating on Perth with our better ones,” Wolfe said.

“Not getting a winner (recently) is just the way it is.

“But we have got a few in here and hopefully can get a winner along the line somewhere.”

Wolfe was hopeful of further improvement from Countercat, who was disappointing at Mt Barker last start, and a strong effort from resuming sprinter Conjob while rating Chasing Chaos as one of his best chances for the day.

His other runners include Boxonlucy, Faulty, Encosta Las Vegas, Mass Effect, Zipline and In The Loop.

Meanwhile Smart sprinter My Greek Boy will resume at Ascot on Saturday in the Heineken 3 Handicap (1200m) after an impressive trial victory in Albany earlier this month.

The four-year-old has won three of 11 career starts including a dominant two-length win over 1300m at Belmont Park last campaign.

Hoop Shaun McGruddy will take the ride from barrier four with the gelding to carry 56.5kg.

The gelding has won twice in four previous first-up attempts and Wolfe expects a bold showing.

“He’s a pretty good horse and will race well,” he said.

“There is a couple of handy ones but he has come back really nice.”
