South West residents are invited to vote for their top five beers of the year in the annual GABS Hottest 100 Aussie craft beer poll.

Last year, about 60,000 people from across the country casted their votes from 463 breweries.

WA-based breweries Feral Brewing and Little Creatures have pedigree in the competition, winning five times in the 16 years the poll has been running.

Feral Brewing completed a threepeat in 2012, 2013 and 2014, while Little Creatures won the first two awards in 2008 and 2009.

In 2023, WA had 11 beers named in the top 100, three of which were from the South West.

Busselton’s Rocky Ridge Brewing Co had two beers, with their Jindgon Juice Pale Ale finishing 20th and their Rock Candy finishing 79th.

Metricup’s Beerfarm had the highest ranked beer in the South West, with their Royal Haze taking 14th while the Margaret River Beer Co’s In the Pines placed 80th.

GABS general manager Mick Balderas said Australian brewers made some of the best craft beers in the world.

“For a relatively small population, we have such a beautiful, large and diverse range of both breweries and beer,” he said.

“I think it is almost paramount that we should be celebrating it.

“Thirteen per cent of the top 100 were from WA last year. Little Creatures Pale Ale is one of only two beers that has been in the top 100 all 16 years. That’s a fantastic achievement.”

Voting for the hottest 100 closes on January 12 and the winners will be announced on January 25.

Mr Balderas encouraged people to “get online and put your votes in for the top five”.

“It’s such a great thing because it’s your personal opinion, it’s so subjective,” he said.

“It’s great to hear that discussion amongst people, but I guess if you want your voice to be heard, you need to get online and put your votes in.”
