Zane's spoilt for choice

Talented sportsman Zane Marwick is heading in the direction of modern day stars Mitchell Marsh and Stephen Coniglio by choosing either football or cricket as his preferred sport.

Marsh was a shining light in both sporting arenas before eventually having to choose to go into the AFL draft or take up a contract with the Western Warriors. He chose the latter.

Coniglio also had to decide after showcasing his talents in both sports, but the future star has turned his attention to the AFL and most likely the new club, Greater Western Sydney.

After another successful football campaign Marwick was open-minded about where his future sport career would take him.

“I haven’t decided yet, I am going to leave it for as long as possible until I have to make a decision,” he said.

“Not at this stage (do I have a preference), during footy season I would say footy and during cricket season I would say cricket.”

Marwick did, however, reveal his intentions to move to Perth early next year for a pre-season with Claremont.

“During January I will go up and try out for Claremont, I will also start playing cricket then for Willetton,” Marwick said.

“I will play for Railways in the first half of the (cricket) season but I am all sorted to play for Willetton.”

The 17 year-old knows the pressure Coniglio went through after playing with him in the State under-17 cricket side.

“Basically like him I want to leave it as late as possible and enjoy both sports,” he said.

If he doesn’t make the Claremont colts side next season, Marwick is likely to return to Albany after finishing the cricket season with Willetton, to play a final season with the Tigers in the Great Southern Football League before moving back to Perth to try his luck again.

He finished seventh in this year’s Kleemann Medal and scored three centuries at an average of just over 40 in last season’s A-grade competition.
