Albany's youth were encouraged to shine at a leadership breakfast hosted by Headspace Great Southern this week.

More than 50 of the region’s young leaders attended the breakfast, aimed at inspiring them to get involved in the community.

Funded by APEX Albany and the Department for Communities, attendants included local high school students, medical students and Open Access Youth Arts Studio participants.

Beyond Blue WA Youth Ambassador Annabeth Bateman spoke about her experience with anxiety and depression and the importance of community involvement.

“Young people’s opinions and experiences are really important and they need to be reflected in policies and services,” she said.

Albany’s Headspace National Youth Representative Kaitlyn Seymour recommended young people got involved.

“In Albany there’s the Albany Youth Advisory Council and the Headspace Advisory Council and they’re really the best ways to get involved and have your voice heard,” she said.
