Denmark Soccer Club will put their three-year unbeaten run in all competitions to the test when they continue their new challenge against Perth’s best women’s teams this weekend.

Having not lost a match in their three-season existence, the club have entered in the Football West Women’s Metropolitan Cup knockout competition this season and will take on division 5 team Maccabi Soccer Club this Sunday in round 2.

Denmark were convincing 7-1 winners in the opening round clash against Port Kennedy last month, resulting in the club reassessing their goals, according to coach Mike Garland.

“We thought we had been doing really well locally and we wanted to see how we stand in the wider world,” he said.

“We had no idea what to expect, we knew they were undefeated in their competition so we were pretty tense to start.

“We were expecting to not go far, it can be the luck of the draw.”

Denmark have taken out the Great Southern Soccer Association league division 1 and cup double in the past two seasons having moved up from division 2 with strong depth and a plethora of talent the keys to their success and so far golden run.

Garland said the club’s stance of fostering youth had led to an abundance of keen female players.

“It stems back to our junior development. We are really strong in promoting juniors and we encourage everyone to play,” he said.

But the club will have to progress in the knockout competition without star striker Liah Cassidy-Smith this weekend with aims of continuing on to the group of 16 and beyond.

The team will play two matches in three days when they travel to Perth on Saturday after playing locally tomorrow night against Polonia.

“We’ll go up and give it our best shot, we are certainly confident,” Garland said.
