A Denmark cafe won a prestigious award at the Restaurant and Catering Australia’s Awards for Excellence in Perth on Monday night.

Mrs Jones Cafe took out the cafe of the year gong after being named the top cafe restaurant at the awards night, which recognised outstanding achievement within the restaurant and catering industry in WA.

Mrs Jones Cafe owner Ali Osborne said the result came as a huge shock.

“I was so surprised to win it,” she said.

“We weren’t even going to go up for the awards.”

Ms Osborne said the family- run business had been in action for five years and prided itself on its excellent coffee and use of local produce.

“We have fantastic baristas and we make great quality coffee,” she said

“We use a whole lot of local produce and we have great local staff.”

Denmark’s Kirby’s at Rickety Gate also claimed an award on the night, winning the restaurant in a winery for the second year in a row.

Kirby’s owner Jacqueline Kirby said she believed their success had come from their passion for the job.

“Our secret is we are incredibly passionate,” he said

“We love spoiling our guests, whether they are locals or tourists and it’s all year round.”
