Festive family sparkles
The Smith family have been living at 76 Drome Road since 2002 and have decked out their home with Christmas lights almost every year.
Mother-of-two Tracey Smith said decorating the home had become a family tradition.
“It’s a fun family tradition but mostly for a Christmas sparkle, and we have found the kids love to come and see them each night before bedtime,” she said.
“This year after a garden revamp the decorations we have added is the shooting stars to the topiary trees and the net light to the roof is also new.”
Mrs Smith said sometimes the decorations are rearranged and other times there are new additions to the display.
“I would encourage families to get involved and decorate their homes as it’s great for a bit of community and neighbourhood interaction and it all makes it all worthwhile when people comment and enjoy our display,” she said.
“Every year my husband Brad says this is his last year but always ends up helping out come Christmas time and we always look forward to this time of year as it is also our family tradition to drive around town and see all the lights.”
Mrs Smith said it didn’t have to be expensive to decorate the home, saying the family noticed very little increase in electricity costs.
She recommended starting up small and adding a few sets each year saying they have had some sets for 10 years.
Other areas for Christmas lights drive-bys are Granada Crescent in Mckail, Seville Way in Orana and Bayonet Head.
