Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington says a visit by Chinese consul-general Dr Huang Qinguo next week is a chance to explore opportunities for Albany's economic development.

Dr Huang will spend next Thursday and Friday in Albany and plans to tour the National Anzac Centre, attend a civic reception and meet with the Albany Port Authority.

He will also attend the Albany Show accompanied by Great Southern Grammar Mandarin teacher Mr Ye Fei, who is teaching in Albany as part of a partnership between the University of Western Australia and the Confucius Institute.

Mr Wellington said he was looking forward to hosting Dr Huang.

"I am looking forward to meeting and sharing knowledge about our cities, and how we could work together to build on our economic and cultural prosperity," he said.

"Albany has a lot to offer international markets in terms of potential exports including quality fresh produce, fine wines and as a destination for holidays, conferences, businesses and cultural connectivity."
