City, Landcorp lure hotel investors
The City of Albany and Landcorp are already courting potential property developers interested in the Middleton Beach development site.
A group of 12 investors visited Albany on Monday including the Wyndham Hotel Group.
The group has 7800 hotels and 678,000 rooms in 72 countries.
The Middleton Beach scheme amendment and structure plan was deferred by the council last week for further community consultation.
Executive director of commercial services Cameron Woods said the investors left impressed with what Albany had to offer.
“Investors were shown a range of key development sites and taken on a tour of some of Albany’s major tourist attractions including the National Anzac Centre and recently re-opened Natural Bridge and The Gap,” he said.
“The City will continue to follow up specific opportunities and expressions of interest from investors.
“Attracting private investment to the region is critical to the long-term growth and sustainability of Albany and the Great Southern.”
The investors were also shown the vacant Albany Waterfront development.
During a visit to Albany on Tuesday, Assistant minister for Cities and Digital Transformation Angus Taylor was shown potential development sites in the City.
“Coming to Albany, it is very clear the potential this region has is enormous,” he said.
“It’s clearly a very beautiful area it is an area that has great amenities and will continue to attract people.”
Community consultation on the Middleton Beach development site will be open for new comments until June 13.
