City apologise for beach bungle
The City of Albany has apologised for sand nourishment works that have created a lake at Middleton Beach, marring the popular tourist spot since last weekend.
As part of the City’s long term strategy to manage erosion, 10,000 cubic metres of sand were trucked to Emu Point from Ellen Cove.
City works and services executive director Matthew Thomson said the current condition of Ellen Cove was “not ideal”.
“We understand that the works have caused some inconvenience and we apologise, however history shows that this area will replenish itself,” he said.
“The tides at present have made it difficult to reshape the beach with machinery, however this week the City will work towards restoring the beach profile at Ellen Cove.”
The works, carried out by two excavators and two dump trucks, began at the end of April to combat erosion at Emu Point and drainage at Middleton.
Depending on weather and tides, City of Albany staff will tidy up the beach this week.
