Albany continue good form

Albany's motocross stars continued their consistent 2012 form recording some sterling results in the penultimate round of the South West Interclub Series at Miniup Park on Sunday.

The last ever meet at the Robinson track was one to remember for young guns Corben Weinert and Jesse Attwell, both blitzing the field to sit on top of the podium in their respective divisions.

Attwell was a clear winner in 125-250cc junior lites division, while Weinert finished on top of the 65cc division with three comfortable wins.

Albany’s Todd Knuiman continued his consistent form, maintaining his spot at the top of the lites class leaderboard with two wins from three races.

The intriguing series-battle between Manjimup’s Jimmy Craig and Knuiman continued, with the latter prevailing in the first two races before Craig won race three.

Knuiman’s older brother Dion also recorded three wins in the open division, while youngster Corey Draper prevailed in the 85cc class.

The opening race of the lites class produced a frenetic battle for the hole shot with the wet track playing havoc.

Local Jake Murphy was forced to retire from the race with a knee injury and took no further part in the round after being involved in an early collision on the opening corner.

Other strong performers were Dean Castlehow and Shane Pierce, who finished second and third respectively in the veteran’s division.

Local riders will now turn their attention to the WA Motocross Championships with round 4 to be held in Geraldton this weekend, before the final interclub meet is held in Denmark on August 25.
