OFA 2023: Lake Grace-Pingrup suffer first loss of season at hands of in-form Boxwood Hill in round four

Boxwood Hill marched to a third straight win and are the only unbeaten team in the Ongerup Football Association after a strong display in Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash. Lake Grace-Pingrup travelled to Boxwood, as the two unbeaten teams met in round four of the 2023 OFA competition. After a slow first half from both sides Boxwood wrestled control in the second and led by 14 points at the main break. The home side went up a gear in the second half as they kicked nine goals on their way to an impressive 30-point win. Fresh off his bag of 10 goals last week, key forward Jack Davis booted five goals to help Boxwood to record a third win on the trot. Davis was well supported by Shane Davy and Michael Swarbrick in the front half as the home side prevailed 12.8 (80) to 7.8 (50). Boxwood kicked six goals to four in the third term to extend the margin to 29 points and three majors in the final stanza was enough to seal the result. Beau Vaux, Brett Plane, Davy and Luke Treeby were all instrumental for the winners. For the visitors, Jackson Callope (three goals) played a lone hand in attack. Lake Grace-Pingrup were best served by Darcy Townsend, Will Cook and Blair Watson. In the other fixture reigning premiers Gnowangerup moved to second on the ladder after posting their second win of the season. The Bulldogs kicked only two goals against Jerramungup in the first term but dominated from that point on to run out 57-point winners in the end. Playing at home, the Bulldogs led by 33 points at half time and booted four goals to one in the second half to down the Eagles 10.11 (71) to 2.2 (14). Murray Hayward, Lewis Davis, Connor Hawkins (two goals) and Quillan Pritchard all played key roles for the Bulldogs while Mac Crichton finished with three majors. For the Eagles, Brendan Lee kicked their only two goals while teammates Aaron Winters, Alex Baum, Jayden Brooks and Wade Brown all played well.
