Great Southern kiteboarding sensation Ruben Swart, hailing from Denmark, is ready to set sail for a spot in the top 10 of the Global Kitesports Association world tour rankings.

Currently sitting equal 13th in the world, the high-flyer will push the limits when he launches out of the surf in the Gran Canaria Big Air world tour event in Spain next month.

Fresh off a stellar outing in Barcares, France, in April where he made the quarterfinals, Swart said he will draw on his red-hot form when he tackles the Gran Canaria next month.

“I’ve been training hard, and the conditions in Gran Canaria are perfect for pushing the limits,” Swart said.

“The competition in Barcares was tough, but it gave me the confidence and motivation to aim higher.

“My goal is to make it to the semifinals, if not further.”

Swart will lock horns with 23 of the best kiteboarders from around the world, including Dutch world No.1 Jamie Overbeek, with the winner pocketing a cool €18,000.

Competitors are awarded points based on their board-riding technique, aerial hang time and the extremity of their manoeuvres.

The Gran Canaria event is renowned for its challenging wind and surf conditions, with only the most daring boarders securing top results.

The event will debut at the notoriously windy spot of Salinas de Tenefé starting on July 9 and can be followed online or on social media platforms.
