Students from Albany Secondary Education Support Centre have collected more than 30,000 containers this year for the Containers for Change program.

Each year, students choose a charity to donate a third of their recyclable earnings to and this year they chose Fishability Albany.

The not-for-profit group provides fishing programs for people with disabilities so they can enjoy the outdoors and experience the rewards that come with fishing.

The students at ASEC donated $1000 to the organisation on Monday, presenting a giant cheque.

Fishability Albany jetty program coordinator Timothy Vokins was incredibly thankful to the ASEC students.

“It was awesome and unexpected,” he said.

“It was so good to be there to receive the cheque for Fishability, and just to be part of that was amazing.”

“We’re very grateful for the donation and it’s going towards great things like rods, hooks, sinkers and things like that.

“Thank you on behalf of Albany Fishability, choosing to raise money for Fishability will help us go a long way.”

“And well done to the teachers for helping to organise it and all the students that collect the cans.

“Keep on going because it’s good for the environment as well.”
