Leavers at Mt Barker Community College were treated to a visit from local law enforcement and emergency services last Wednesday to see the process that follows a motor accident.
The visit is a biennial one and has been ongoing for the past 20 years cycling through different scenarios for the students.
Organised by Wesley Beck, one of the school’s science teachers and volunteer firefighter, an e-scooter was loaned from Beam which was staged to have slammed into the side of the car.
“Whether it happens to be in the scenario that we showed or a different scenario, it shows how many people are involved,” Mr Beck said.
“One of the things we talked about in a question-answer session that we had after the car accident, was how many pairs of hands that we had during the crash going all the way through to the RFDS.
“You’ve got the fire rescue people and ambulance, the police then take you down to Albany.
“Then there’s more doctors and nurses taking them to the RFDS, and you’ve got more ambulance officers.”
The mock car accident was facilitated by Great Southern Police, St John Ambulance, Mt Barker Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, and the Shire of Plantagenet.
