ANA 2024: 16-and-under title highlights nine teams at Fuel To Go & Play Association Championships in Perth

Albany Netball Association’s 16-and-under side conquered all at the Fuel To Go & Play Association Championships in Perth at the weekend, emerging division three premiers.

ANA sent nine teams to the annual three-day tournament held over the long weekend at Matthews Netball Centre in Floreat, braving wet and windy conditions against thousands of players from around the State.

After finishing their seven group stage matches with five wins, a draw and a loss, Albany’s 16s won the grand final with a stellar 24-19 victory over Bunbury Blue.

Star defender Keely Berry was a pillar in defence and named most valuable player after thwarting countless opposition attacks throughout the tournament, and was assisted in the back half superbly by Natalie Simpson, forming a dynamic defensive duo.

Winter Proudfoot, Chloe Slimie and Hayley Poet tirelessly ran through the middle court, driving their forward their attacks dead-eye shooters Courtney White and Sophie Panizza while Hollie Jackman and Ellie McTavish were reliable contributors when called up on off the bench.

Their spirited division eight counterparts fell agonisingly close to a grand final berth after achieving three wins from their five matches.

Albany’s 20-and-under finished third in their final tournament together after notching four wins and two losses from six matches.

Two 14-and-under sides travelled to Perth, the division two team managing just one win from their seven matches to place seventh, while the division seven side scored two wins to fifth.

The division four 13-and-under side placed fourth with three wins and three losses and the division seven outfit won one of their five matches ending in fifth position.

A pair of 12-and-under teams went, each finishing in fifth on the ladder, division three garnering three wins and three losses while division six finished with a 2-4 record.
