NDNA 2024: Five teams hit the courts in Perth for annual Fuel to Go and Play Association Championships

The Narrogin and Districts Netball Association teams had a spectacular weekend of netball attending the 2024 Fuel to Go and Play Association Championships in Perth.

Four junior teams and one senior team attended, including reigning A1 premiers Williams.

The junior teams came together for the first time on court after training hard for the last five weeks.

The weekend started with fun in the sun before spotty rain, wind and storms dampened conditions forcing teams to adapt to the weather throughout the weekend.

All players handled the conditions well, playing outside their comfort zone of indoor NDNA courts.

The girls tried hard in very extreme playing conditions.

The 18-and-under team, playing in the 20-and-under division three competition, went from strength to strength but only managed one win for the weekend as they played much older and stronger teams.

The improvement of the players over the weekend was exciting to watch.

Tyler Steere was named the most valuable player by coach Erin Streeton for her consistent leads and intercepts down the court, her positive attitude and team spirit.

The 16-and-under team, playing in division eight, started the weekend slowly losing their first five games, although displaying tight contests and small margins.

They showed a lot of grit and resilience to be competitive in every game and managed to win their final game defeating Eaton 19-4.

Association championships debutante Libby Boye received the MVP award from coaches Kelly Steere and Chloe Campbell for her consistency, flexibility in multiple positions and great defensive skills.

The 14-and-under team were graded in division six and had a memorable few days playing in sunshine and heavy rain.

They started off with several small losses on the first day but after some inspirational play on Sunday, they bonded as a team and began to win.

They seemed determined to give their coach a heart attack with all their games determined by less than six goals throughout the tournament.

They displayed teamwork, resilience and determination through all games for which they should be very proud and were perhaps unlucky not to have won more.

With a lot of personal improvement from all players over the weekend, the MVP was awarded by coach Ellie Sheridan to Bella Corasaniti for her resilience, determination and inspiring presence on the court.

The 12-and-under team, with many players attending this competition for the first time, played in division five and played against much bigger associations like Bunbury, Noranda and Southern Districts.

All girls showed great improvement in their skills throughout the weekend.

Coaches Leanne Watts and Tanya Hart awarded the MVP to Marley Steere for her consistent effort, strong leads and wonderful sportsmanship over the weekend.

The open team took on the challenge of division two with gusto.

Starting the competition with games against some tough opponents, they held our own, defeating Wanneroo and Districts, Lechenault and Bunbury in the first three games.

Some terrific shooting, explosive passages of play and exceptional defence had the momentum building.

On Sunday the team came up against some stronger opponents, with one defeat and one draw.

They were pipped at the post by three goals in the semifinal but can hold their heads up high as they showed amazing strength, speed and agility and matched it with the best netballers in WA.
