West Coast Eagles confirm Oscar Allen and Liam Duggan to remain as co-captain in 2025
West Coast have confirmed Oscar Allen and Liam Duggan will remain as co-captain of the Eagles for the 2025 season, while Jeremy McGovern is the new vice-captain.
Members were informed of the decision on Friday afternoon, with the pair to remain at the held under new coach Andrew McQualter.
Allen and Duggan took over as captains of the Eagles after Luke Shuey retired at the end of the 2023 season.
They are joined in the leadership group by McGovern who takes the vice-captaincy after Tom Barrass was traded to Hawthorn.
Former Richmond vice-captain Liam Baker, fellow former Tiger Jack Graham and 2024 All-Australian forward Jake Waterman have also named in the leadership group.
“It was clear after running a thorough process in line with our club values that Liam and Oscar were the standout leaders for our playing group in 2025,” head of football John Worsfold said.
“They formed an excellent working relationship during their first year as co-captains and their leadership styles complemented each other.
“We’re looking forward to them continuing to lead the club into an exciting new era under senior coach Andrew McQualter.”
McGovern stepped down as vice-captain ahead of the 2024 season but returns to help support Allen and Duggan after claiming a maiden John Worsfold Medal and fifth All-Australian blazer.
“We are really pleased Jeremy will resume a formal leadership position after he stepped back from the vice-captaincy last year to focus on returning to his best football,” Worsfold said.
“The results spoke for themselves after being named Club Champion, and he will step back in to support Liam and Oscar.
“It’s a terrific sign of Jake’s growth for him to join the leadership group and he has shown admirable resilience to reach this point in his career.
“Liam and Jack arrived at the club with strong leadership credentials, and they have already made an impact driving high standards amongst the playing group.”
