West Coast young gun Harley Reid has won goal of the year for his incredible solo effort against Melbourne this year.

The first year star was nominated for the major he kicked in the first quarter of the Eagles’ upset win over Melbourne in round 10.

Reid collected the award from former West Coast captain Chris Judd and was on stage with host Hamish McLachlan as several backpages by The West Australian splashed with the teenage star were displayed on screen.

Starting at the centre bounce against Norm Smith medallist Christian Petracca, Reid collects the ball at the back of the centre circle before exploding forward.

Reid bursts away from Petracca, before taking three bounces and kicking the goal from just within the forward 50 to send the ball over the goal umpires’ head much to the delight of the 43,408 fans at Optus Stadium.

Reid was all smiles as he described the goal on stage.

“We won a hit-out here, I just got the ball and take one bounce, Jake (Waterman) has already put on his sixth lead throwing the arms up and I’ve just gone bang I guess,” Reid said while laughing.

“It was lucky enough to go through.

“It was a bit of a blur to be honest, it didn’t really feel like it was happening.”

Reid was the first Eagle to win the Phil Manassa Medal since dual Brownlow medallist Chris Judd in 2005 and the fourth Eagle ever alongside Daniel Kerr (2003) and Mark Merenda (2001).

The teenage sensation beat out Collingwood star Nick Daicos, who had an incredible two nominations which were both finallists alongside Reid’s goal.

Daicos’ first nomination came against Gold Coast in round 16 when he had two possessions before getting on the end of a forward 50 handball, sidestepping a Suns’ defender and slotting an important major late in the final term.

The Magpies premiership star was also nominated for a similar solo effort to Reid, bursting through the MCG against Brisbane in round 23.

Getting the ball in transition at the centre square, Daicos shakes off a tackle from Lion Dayne Zorko, taking two bounces and leaving two Brisbane players in his wake to kick a big second quarter goal.
