Perth Glory captain and Socceroos striker Adam Taggart has joined The West Australian this season.

Taggart, last year’s A-League Men golden boot winner, will be sharing his expertise and fascinating insights from inside the Glory camp and the world of soccer in exclusive columns.

The Glory confirmed on Tuesday their marksman will take the captaincy reins again this season.

The 31-year-old, who already has 20 national team caps, has played for multiple clubs in Australia, England, Scotland and South Korea in a glittering career.

He scored 20 times from 25 appearances for the Glory last season, earning a recall to the Socceroos side.

Taggart told The West last month he holds high expectations for the club this season.

“We need to be pushing for finals at the absolute minimum,” he said.

“Last year, I had the intention to win the league. I don’t feel it’s right to play football without having a desire and belief that we’re going to win something.”

Glory have welcomed back a host of WA-born talent this season, including Josh Risdon and former skipper Brandon O’Neill to work under new boss David Zdrillic.

“It’s practically a completely new side,” Taggart said.

“A long pre-season is probably going to do us some good, to make sure that all of us are getting used to each other and understanding how each other play.”

The Glory open their season away at Macarthur on Sunday, October 20. Their first home match at HBF Park is against Wellington on October 26.
