Peel Thunder ruckman Liam Reidy says a lack of trust and predictability was behind their shock 17-point qualifying final loss to Swan Districts.

The Thunder lost consecutive games for the first time in 2024 after they were out worked and out hunted by the Swans in a 10.5 (65) to 7.6 (48) defeat in Mandurah on Saturday.

It has Peel on the verge of a straight sets exit unless they beat Claremont in the first semifinal at Lane Group Stadium on Sunday.

Reidy, who was one of Peel’s best with 66 hit-outs, 12 disposals, seven tackles and six clearances said they quickly reflected on why they were beaten by the Swans.

“We touched on it in the meeting that the fight, trust and predictability as a team just wasn’t there,” he said.

“We just came out expecting it to happen against a team that hasn’t played finals in three years, and they just came out and wanted it more. As simple as that.”

Reidy and Nathan O’Driscoll came back into the side after a fortnight in Fremantle’s side and were part of six changes to the Thunder team from their round 21 loss to East Perth.

The 204cm ruckman said there would be a focus on cohesion as they prepare for a do-or-die clash.

“It starts during the week, getting a stability in the team,” Reidy said.

“We haven’t played as that group for a couple of weeks and just lifting the standards throughout the week, getting it right and being hungry. Showing we want to be here.”

Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir and his staff as well as plenty of Dockers watched on as a dozen of their teammates were beaten by the Swans.

Reidy refused to use the fact that the Dockers side was no longer in the premiership hunt for a lack of performance from those still playing in the WAFL.

“It poses challenges, but you move on quickly and get to work,” he said.

“This is what we get paid to do, so you’ve got to be professional, and I still have a lot of love for playing the game.

“The opportunity to win a flag inspires me greatly.”
