“Dawn is already making amazing progress,” the family said in a statement.

Swimming Australia also released a statement on Monday, with CEO Rob Woodhouse wishing Fraser a speedy recovery.

“We have heard back from the family and as we understand Dawn is stable,” Woodhouse said.

“Dawn is an Australian living treasure – an icon of our sport – and we wish her a speedy, healthy and fully recovery.”

One of Australia’s greatest ever Olympians, Fraser dominated the 100m freestyle to be one of only four swimmers to win the same individual event three times.

She secured her first gold at the 1956 Games in Melbourne before repeating the dose in 1960 and 1964. She also won gold in the 4x100m relay in Melbourne.

Fraser won a total of eight Olympic medals and held the world record in the 100m freestyle for 15 years.

Arguably, Australia’s greatest ever sportsperson, Fraser was crowned World Athlete of the Century at the World Sports Awards in 1999.

She also became the first female to be elevated to legend in the Australian Sport Hall of Fame.

Fraser attended the Sport Australia Hall Of Fame Gala in Melbourne last month, while she also made an appearance at the Australian Open at Kingston Heath Golf Club on November 30.

In the past few years, Fraser has been a very active with the Australian swim team, often in the stands supporting and serving as a mentor for the current squad.

She was at this year’s Olympics in Paris cheering on the Aussies.

“Dawn is not just a sporting legend, but a treasured member of the community, part of Australian folklore and we’re hoping she makes a speedy recovery,” Titmus added.
