Late entry Bluestocking wins Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe
Bluestocking pulled out on an impressive burst of speed in the final straight to win the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Europe's leading horse race, after only being added to the race earlier this week.
The filly settled behind Los Angeles early on and her final effort left all her rivals in her wake at the 2400-metre Longchamp track in Paris.
Bluestocking won ahead of Aventure, with Los Angeles ending in third place for Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore. Pre-race favourite Sosie was fourth.
Trained by Briton Ralph Beckett and ridden by Irishman Rossa Ryan, Bluestocking had only been entered after her victory in the Prix Vermeille.
"I know everyone overlooked her, but on form she had been at the top table and done it all," Ryan said.
"She just proved she's something else. I can't really believe it, this filly has been something else to my career."
