Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg has called for Cam Green to make his Test debut against India next week after the WA young gun produced a polished century against the tourists in today’s tour match.

Green reached his ton off 145 balls in a composed display for Australia A at Sydney’s Drummoyne Oval, further enchancing the 21-year-old’s claims as a future star.

The Subiaco Floreat product brought up three figures with a superb cover drive for his ninth four of the afternoon before removing his helmet and acknowledging the small crowd in a subdued celebration.

He finished Day 2 of the tour match 114 not out in Australia A’s total of 8-286, in reply to India’s 9/247 declared.

Green’s ton came against an Indian attack that included experienced Test campaigners Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav, with the tourists fine-tuning their preparations ahead of the opening day of the Test series next Thursday in Adelaide.

The knock continued an impressive start to the season for Green, who belted 197 in a Sheffield Shield clash against NSW and earning an international debut in last week’s third One-Day International.

Hogg took to Twitter to call for Green’s inclusion, with Travis Head or Matthew Wade most likely in the firing line from the incumbent side.

“Cameron Green has to be a certainty to play the first test now,” Hogg wrote.

“Pick of the batsmen in the first innings and bowled some tidy overs.

“Can't have him as a bench warmer.

“Extremely tough & harsh call to remove Head or Wade but sometimes you have to bite the bullet.

“Australia have been searching for an all-rounder for a long time. In form, get him in.”

Green had two lives thanks to dropped catches while on 24 and 78, and also had a nervous moment on 99 when batting partner Michael Neser ran himself out trying to get the West Aussie a quick single for his century.

But he rode his luck to reach three figures, impressing Australia A coach Matthew Mott and no doubt catching the eye of national team selectors.

“What stood out the most was what a temperament he had, and his appetite to score runs” Mott said.

The ton came after openers Joe Burns and Will Pucovski both failed earlier in the day, missing their chance to stake their claim for next week’s Test opener.

Yadav dismissed both Pucovski (1) and Burns (4) inside the first seven overs of Australia A’s innings.

Australian skipper Tim Paine (44) was the next best of the Australia A batsmen behind Green, with Marcus Harris adding 35.
