Test all-rounder Cam Green has beaten the WA lockout, returning to Perth under a special exemption that has allowed him some valuable time at home before departing for the proposed Test tour of Pakistan.

As a university student, the 22-year-old rising star had his G2G application approved under the State’s new returning students directions.

Green, who will still need to complete 14 days of home quarantine, studies commerce at Curtin University and is understood to have organised his application himself.

West Australians currently in the eastern states who do not qualify for an exemption will have to wait until February 5 before returning to begin their 14 days’ quarantine.

The latest WA border exemptions have come as a boost for the Perth Scorchers camp, who are preparing for Friday’s Big Bash League final in Melbourne.

Many of them are expected to be allowed to return to Perth this weekend under exemptions relating to study or because they have primary school-aged children travelling with them.

A WA Cricket spokesperson said Scorchers players and staff were awaiting the result of their applications. Green does not hold a BBL contract this summer.

“All WA players outside of the State have submitted their G2G applications and are awaiting approval by WA Police,” the spokesperson said.

“Cam Green’s G2G application was approved under the Returning Students Directions which included people enrolled in university, and returned to Perth this morning.

“Cam and his partner are now self-isolating in the same residence for two weeks.”
