Subiaco Oval light towers removed as demolition works ramp up

After standing as a recognisable part of the metro area skyline for more than two decades, Subiaco Oval’s light towers are biting the dust.

Works are continuing today to remove the lights and towers from the disused footy ground as the demolition job at the venue ramps up.

The light towers were first used at Subiaco Oval in 1997, allowing night footy to be played away from the WACA Ground for the first time.

Demolition works have also taken place in sections of grandstands on the eastern side of the ground and the two-tier stand on the northern wing.

The heritage gates at the old Gate 19 in the stadium’s south-western corner will remain.

Most of the demolition works are expected to be completed before the new Bob Hawke College opens next February.

The new school precinct is taking shape at neighbouring Kitchener Park.
