AFL Finals 2019: How Kevin Sheedy spurred Eagles-Bombers rivalry
He's the coaching legend whose been baiting the Eagles since the WA club was formed.
And Kevin Sheedy is back in Perth for tonight’s do-or-die elimination final between West Coast and Essendon.
“We’re not going over there to get beaten,” Sheedy said.
“You know our boys have been through a hell of a lot.”
Speaking to Today Tonight, Sheedy recalled some of his most controversial moments including the iconic jacket waving moment of 1993 and the infamous throat-slitting gesture to Eagle Mitchell White in 2000.
“When the happiest coach in the world Micky Malthouse took over at Eagles that was even better ... we were full throttle at each other,” he recalled.
“It was one of those moments in my life (the jacket waving) - my mother rang up and told me to behave myself that night.
“Mitchell White, that incident was my fault. I lost my temper.
“The reason I got fined $7500 was that I did (the gesture) as the little league ran out in front of me.”
The West Australian’s Craig O’Donoghue says the Eagles-Bombers rivalry always produces controversy.
“Kevin Sheedy drove the rivalry from the very start,” O’Donoghue said.
“Every time West Coast and Essendon play each other, you know something’s going to happen.”
Bouncedown for tonight’s elimination final is at 6.10pm.
