As chair of the board of Great Southern FM 100.9FM, I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere thanks for the community’s support during our recent Radiothon.

GSFM is a not-for-profit charity run by volunteers bringing music, entertainment, news and weather to our listeners 6am-late seven days a week.

We are not government-funded and our source of income is mainly from memberships, sponsorships and donations.

As the only community radio station in Albany, our purpose is to support our community.

After 29 years on the air, this Radiothon was our first reaching out to the community to support us and to keep GSFM moving forward.

The generosity within our community was both overwhelming and heartwarming.

A big thank you to the Albany Advertiser for covering the event, to all those who donated money, to our sponsors and local businesses who donated prizes, and not forgetting the support from businesses who displayed our posters advertising the Radiothon.

As with any organisation, we have outgoings and operational expenses to continue broadcasting and maintain our mast on Mt Clarence.

I know there are lots of choices when it comes to donating and I am so grateful that you chose to donate to GSFM.

All monies raised will go a long way to address our operational expenses and to purchase much-needed equipment required to upgrade our second studio.

Julie Bright is chair of Great Southern FM.
