Police believe the woman stepped onto the road before she was hit by a B-double truck.

She suffered severe leg injuries and was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

A Victoria Ambulance spokesperson also said the woman suffered upper and lower body injuries.

The male truck driver stopped at the scene but was not injured in the incident.

An investigation has been launched, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
