Perth copped a drenching overnight receiving more than 40mm with more rain on the way for the rest of the week.

Residents were warned earlier in the week that the wet weather would be in full force by Wednesday night with heavy rainfall and strong winds.

From about 8pm, the people of Perth were forced to batten down the hatches as the rain clouds rolled in and dropped a drenching.

Since 9am, Perth has received 43.6mm, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

The State Emergency Service has received 60 requests for assistance since 6pm on Wednesday.

Most calls related to minor flooding, water ingress and ceiling leaks, a spokeswoman said.

The most impacted areas were around Rockingham, Safety Bay and Waikiki.

The rain fell hard and fast, going from 2.6mm at 8pm to 21mm by 9pm.

For the rest of Thursday, the city can expect more showers with a 75 per cent chance of copping 15mm.

There is a chance of a thunderstorm near the coast with winds west to south-westerly reaching 25 to 40km/h.

Despite the bout of rain, temperatures will remain fairly comfortable, sitting in the high teens to low 20s.

The people of Perth haven’t been able to catch much of a break from the dreary conditions after it was reported the region has only experienced two dry weekends so far this winter.
