Walpole residents are expected to experience power outages over the next month during upgrades to sections of the line between Denmark and Walpole that pose a bushfire risk.

The $900,000 Western Power project involves replacing up to 450 poles and about 20km of the single 66km power line between the two towns.

High priority works to old wires, pine and jarrah power poles and pole-top equipment that pose a fire risk started on Friday and is expected to be finished before the bushfire season officially starts at the end of November.

The power line is the only electricity supply to Walpole.

Western Power works delivery manager Lou Tagnolini said it was likely some customers would experience interruptions while works were carried out at the Denmark end of the line.

Walpole's 300 or so residents are expected to receive notices about planned power outages ahead of any blackouts.

Ongoing network upgrades not related to bushfire preparation are expected to continue into the new year and be completed by next winter.
