Promising all-rounder Bryce Jackson will follow in the footsteps of his older brother Mitch after being named in the WA side for the under-17 national championships in Brisbane later this month.

The WACA announced its 13-man squad for the championships last Wednesday with Collingwood Park junior Jackson the only regional player.

The pace bowler was named in the extended 19-man squad in July and has been training with the WA Academy under development coach Wayne Andrews and coach Michael Dighton.

The squad has also been exposed to the Western Warriors set-up with Saturday morning conditioning sessions, while Warriors coaches Justin Langer, Adam Griffith, Geoff Marsh and Andrews have assisted.

Bryce last season played 10 games for Melville in the WACA Watkins Shield under-15 competition, represented Albany at junior country week and played locally in the under-17 competition for Collingwood Park.

Bryce will be presented with his WA cap this week before the squad leaves Perth for Brisbane on September 26.

The squad will take on Tasmania, Queensland, Victoria, Northern Territory and a Cricket Australia XI in the first week before the finals in early October.
