Schools achieve perfect graduation
Dedication and hard work paid off for two local schools when their students achieved a perfect graduation score last year.
All 80 Great Southern Grammar students and 32 St Joseph's College students completed Year 12 with the schools, earning a 74.5 and 82.7 median ATAR, respectively.
Denmark Senior High School followed close behind, with 97.7 per cent of students graduating, and Albany Senior High School with 93.4 per cent.
Great Southern Grammar director of studies Emma Franklin said the school's location had created some challenges, but it was vital to develop the child as a whole.
"We think that it is really important, given our regional location, that we provide excellent opportunities in both ATAR and VET pathways," she said.
"The big focus for us is identifying the students' big areas of passion and developing that all through school to make sure they graduate.
"We recognise they have different gifts and look after the students academically, culturally and in their sporting lives."
St Joseph's College acting principal Sue Alderman said the college was very proud of the students and tried to instil in them the importance of lifelong learning.
"School is not about the result you get at the end, it's all the other things you learn along the way," she said.
"This particular group of students were very cohesive and were very much into helping one another to achieve their best.
Head prefect Jackson Hines said the college created a supportive environment for the students.
"I think because we had a small year group, we could encourage everyone and help each other out," he said.
Denmark High School principal Di Cole said the school had historically had high graduation levels and because it was a small school of 45, the students were known individually by staff.
