Residents' water use kept in check
Water Corporation customers in Albany, Mt Barker, Kendenup and Narrikup have used slightly more scheme water this financial year than in the same period the year before, utility figures show.
Corporation Great Southern acting regional manager Anthony Bodycoat said customers connected to the Lower Great Southern Towns Water Supply Scheme used one per cent more water since July 1, compared with the same period the previous year.
The increase equates to 17 million litres of water.
In comparison, Mr Bodycoat said customers connected to the Integrated Water Supply Scheme, which supplies Perth, the Goldfields and some parts of the South West, used 5.5 billion litres more water than expected this summer.
"I want to congratulate people in the Great Southern region for keeping their water use in check, and urge people to keep up the good work," he said.
Mr Bodycoat also praised Denmark customers for reducing their water consumption by about 7 per cent since July 1, compared with the same period the previous year.
The reduction equates to about 10 million litres of water.
