Premier's award for Albany author
Albany-based author Dianne Wolfer has added another prestigious award to her collection after she was jointly awarded the Premier's Book Award for Children's Books for 2014 for Light Horse Boy.
Light Horse Boy is Wolfer's 14th book and it shared the Premier's Book Award with the late Bunbury-born author Jan Ormerod and South Australian illustrator Andrew Joyner for their book The Swap.
The story follows a young man who leaves his rural home to experience the excitement of World War I, and his love of horses.
Wolfer said 2014 had been a really exciting year.
"I have been working as a writer for 20 years and it just works out I am having a busy year this year," she said.
"They (Premier's Book Awards) are a really big one."
Light Horse Boy was released in April 2013 and was named a Children's Book Council of Australia 2014 Honour Book just last month.
"It was an honour to be shortlisted for the CBCA and then it made it to an honour book, but this is actually winning so I'm very happy," Wolfer said.
Former Albany resident and author Tim Winton grabbed _The West Australian _ People's Choice Award for his book Eyrie.
