Owner finds cat shot dead in carpark
An Albany woman was devastated to find her beloved pet cat dead in a kindergarten carpark this week in what appears to be a deliberate act of animal cruelty.
Erika Mativinovic found her one-and-a-half-year-old black and white cat Ninja in the carpark of Mt Lockyer Community Kindergarten on Tuesday.
Ms Mativinovic said she suspected the cat was shot with a bow and arrow as her cat had an entry and exit wound on its body.
"We are absolutely devastated by this and also very concerned that someone out there could do such a disgusting, cruel act," she said.
Ms Mativinovic took her cat to Dog Road Vet Clinic, where vet surgeon Dr David Kirke confirmed Ninja had been shot.
He said the wound was "suspicious", with Ninja appearing to have been "maliciously killed".
Ms Mativinovic said she had had no complaints about Ninja, who was kept indoors at night, and she was concerned for other pets in the area.
"If people are aware, they might be more vigilant to look after their animals," she said.
"It's dangerous having someone out there with a weapon."
Albany police Senior Sergeant Quentin Flatman said the case had been reported and was still subject to inquiry.
The RSPCA has been alerted and is also urging pet owners to be alert.
