New ACCI head pushes for higher standards
A successful young Albany businessman hopes to help the city's business sector grow and prosper under his direction as Albany Chamber of Commerce and Industry president.
Cameron Bergsma, 34, took over the reins from outgoing president Rod Hedderwick on November 1.
Mr Bergsma said the role was an opportunity to contribute to positive change and improvement.
"I'm always keen to learn and be challenged so it's a great personal development opportunity," he said.
Mr Bergsma said he would bring an energetic drive and organisational and leadership skills to the position.
"The drive will particularly be to improve the operation and professionalism of the executive committee, improve the public understanding of what the ACCI does, represent our members at local, State and Federal Government levels and… move forward towards constant and positive improvement as an organisation," he said.
"As a whole, the business community needs to continue to push each (other) to higher standards, and continue to seek out new and various income streams for the region.
"It's easy to become stagnant and dormant."
Mr Bergsma said he was particularly passionate about young people establishing new businesses with innovative ideas and technology.
Mr Bergsma established electrical contracting business, Jaguar Cabling, eight years ago this month.
He won the ACCI Young Business person of the Year Award in August last year, which recognises best business person under the age of 35.
As a whole, the business community needs to continue to push each (other) to higher standards, and continue to seek out new and various income streams for the region. Cameron Bergsma
