Moss returns to claim Kalgan title
Albany water skiing star Steven Moss returned to the Kalgan River in winning style on the weekend as he won the A-grade slalom and trick divisions at the Lower Great Southern waterskiing tournament.
The annual Albany Ski Club tournament, part of the Malibu State Series, attracted 33 skiers across three divisions for two days of competition.
Moss, a former Australian champion and world representative, was using the tournament as a launching pad back into competitive skiing, where he will rejoin the State series.
In the A-grade slalom, Moss scored five points on both Saturday and Sunday to finish with 10 points, edging out Damon Nottle, Mitchell Cavanagh, Jake Duperouzel and Nicholas Wrenn, who all scored seven points.
Moss proved too strong for Duperouzel across the two rounds of tricks to finish with two solid scores and also take those honours.
In the B-grade slalom division, Graham Cavanagh topped the standings in both rounds to finish with 12 points and defeat Damian Couper (nine points) and Gary Weidman (six), while Brett Andrews also produced two winning rounds in the C-grade to beat Michael Gill by two points.
The D-grade slalom was won by Remi van Baaren and Hayden Cotter topped the points in E-grade.
In the other trick results, Jaimi Andrews won the B-grade section, while Damian Couper narrowly beat veteran Albany skier Martin Moss in the C-grade affair.
Byron Nottle won the D-grade trick event comfortably and Vince Hailand downed Luke Hailand in the E-grade.
Damian Couper won the C-grade jump division from Martin Moss and Byron Nottle beat Luke Hailand in a close battle in D-grade.
