Fire crews at the scene of a fire at a mechanics workshop on Keates Road in Armadale

Fire crews are on the scene of a major structure fire in Armadale.

The fire started at a mechanics workshop on Keates Road just after 10.45am on Wednesday .

“The fire at a mechanics workshop is blowing smoke in a south-westerly direction,” the latest DFES alert says.

“There is no direct threat to lives or homes.

“The fire has been contained and is under control.”

As a precautionary measure, people in the area should remain inside, out of the smoke and fumes with doors and windows closed.

Air conditioners should be switched off.

The cause of the blaze is not known.
