Albany detectives have charged a 36-year-old Albany man over a brazen daylight armed robbery and attempted robbery at two separate Albany chemists this month.

Police allege the man held up Amcal Pharmacy on York Street about 9.40am on January 2.

He demanded prescription medication but left the store empty-handed.

About two hours later, it is alleged the 36-year-old pretended to be armed with a hand gun at Hacienda Pharmacy on Albany Highway.

Police say he left the chemist with a large quantity of painkillers.

During the investigation, Albany detectives' Sergeant Todd White described the crimes as "brazen" and "desperate".

The man has been charged with one count each of attempted robbery, armed robbery, attempted fraud, and two counts of aggravated burglary with intent.

He is due to appear in Albany Magistrates' Court on Friday February 12.

Albany detectives thanked the community for their assistance during their investigation.
