City of Perth mayoral election receives few return votes with less than a week to go

With less than a week to go before the City of Perth mayoral election, Returning Officer Kelly Dansie will join The West Live to discuss the process, candidates and if the public is really engaged.

As of Friday, of the 15,281 packages mailed out, only 4198 had been received - just 27.5 per cent.

Also on the show, Australian Medical Association WA president Andrew Miller and the Town of Port Hedland Commissioner Fred Riebeling will join podcast host Jenna Clarke to provide an update on the positive tests on the BHP cargo ship Vega Dream.

The cargo ship, carrying millions of dollars of iron ore, is languishing off the Port Hedland coast after a crew member tested positive for coronavirus.

Two Hedland-based maritime workers who boarded the Vega Dream before the positive diagnosis have not been tested.

A Health Department spokeswoman, however, said the workers did not come into contact with the infected crew member, were considered “low risk” and were not required to quarantine.

Later on the show, Channel 7 Sports Presenter Mark Readings and WA's Indonesia Institute president Ross Taylor will discuss the anniversary of the Bali bombings.

On October 12, 2002, the bombings in Bail’s tourist district of Kuta killed 202 people. A further 209 people were injured. Readings had been a holiday maker on the island at the time and became a correspondent on the event.

Later in the show, 7NEWS’ Gloria de Jesus will join Clarke to update West Australian’s on the latest news headlines.
