The City of Albany's quarterly report into the financial operations of the Albany Heritage Park has revealed strong figures.

According to a report presented to the City's economic development committee on Tuesday, the National Anzac Centre has exceeded expectations and has generated profitable sales.

From the NAC's opening last year to September 30 this year, 75,199 people visited the $10.6 million building.

A total $389,554 in operating income was received up to September 30, a 63 per cent increase in the budgeted income of $239,234.

According to the report, sales of Princess Royal Fortress merchandise was $50,000 above-budget.

The forecast visitation numbers for July were 2598, but in reality, 5047 people came through the doors.

There were only seven days in July, one day in August and two days in September, when visitation statistics were below the daily target. A total 6009 adults, 6163 concession card holders and 1894 children visited the NAC in July, August and September.

Tours of the Princess Royal Fortress attracted 1675 people in the same period.

Location statistics showed 62 per cent of visitors were from WA, 11 per cent from NSW, 11 per cent from Victoria, 7 per cent from Queensland, 4 per cent from the Northern Territory and 3 per cent from overseas.

City of Albany economic development and commercial services executive director Cameron Woods said all surplus income was set aside into a reserve fund for the development of the NAC and the Albany Heritage Park site.

Mr Woods said next year the City would establish an independent steering committee to assist development of the site, and provide expertise on infrastructure, marketing, event and exhibition initiatives and programs to support the values of the NAC, the Anzac story and the region.

"The success of the NAC into the future will depend on the strategic initiatives we put in place now," he said.
