A 26-year-old woman allegedly caught driving 65km/h over the speed limit in Albany on Boxing Day was one of several hoons charged by Great Southern police during the festive season.

Albany police allegedly detected the woman travelling at 145km/h in an 80km/h zone on Albany Highway in McKail at 10.30pm on December 26.

Her Mazda sedan was impounded and she was charged with one count of reckless driving.

Other speeding charges to come out of the Statewide HeadsUp Christmas campaign between December 17 and January 3 included three alleged hoons caught on Albany Highway.

Mt Barker police say they detected a 36-year-old McKail man travelling at 156km/h in a 110km/h zone on December 16, a 29-year-old Carlisle man allegedly clocked driving at 154km/h in a 110km/h zone on December 18 and a 26-year-old Parmelia woman travelling at 95km/h in a 60km/h zone on December 24.

Great Southern traffic Sergeant Troy Pillage said police impounded four other vehicles under hoon laws in Hopetoun, Albany, Arthur River and Kendenup during the second week of the campaign.

"There were also 12 vehicles impounded for driving under suspension in the Great Southern district, seven of which were in Albany," Sgt Pillage said.
